I’ve had issues with my Belkin charging station. These issues occurred with new iPhones, with larger camera bumps or cases that started to make my iPhone struggle to charge at times.
Belkin’s charging lights were also a problem, as they lit up the room. I tried covering it up, but it ruins the look of the stand and I usually place something in front of the LED at night to block the bright white glow from the tiny LED at the front and top of the stand.
Another issue I found is that I preferred my wireless charging Apple AirPods to be at the front of my charging Apple Watch, which isn’t the case on the Belkin, so reaching for the charging case would knock my Apple Watch off or make a noise whilst my wife was sleeping, sometimes waking her up. First-world problems, right?
Anyway. With the release of iOS 17 and Apple’s new Standby feature – a feature where when magnetically mounted and orientated horizontally, the iPhone would display a wide formatted clock alongside other widgets. The Belkin didn’t allow this ability, so I started looking for a 3-in-1 MagSafe charging station with a similar aesthetic to the Belkin whilst at a cheaper price, and I found this one from Amazon seller brand XooFly/Umaniy/RoRoSkin (depending on which store you look at).
For a charging station that comes in at under half the cost of the Belkin, I was pleasantly surprised. The build quality is decent, it also comes with a 18W charging adapter as well as USB-C cable to keep the stand powered. Its length is just over a metre long, enough to reach a nearby wall socket, but if the distance is longer you’ll need to find yourself a longer USB-C cable.
The stand features a charging platform for your Apple Watch at the back, a charging plate on the stand base for an Apple AirPods charging case (it can also charge a phone from this too), and up top there is a MagSafe mount and charging ring to charge an Apple iPhone, or any other magnetic backed smartphone.
Mounting the iPhone 15 Pro is strong and it holds onto the phone well enough, whilst also allowing you to remove it fairly easily without pulling the stand along with it. When removing your iPhone, you do need to twist it though, as the stand base isn’t that heavy enough. But I can remove the phone this way one-handed by tilting the phone upwards and then removing it from the stand.
There’s still a blueish charging light at the front, but although bigger and wider than the Belkin, it isn’t as bright and I’ve learned to deal with it. I’d have loved to see a button on the bottom of the base to turn this light off, but it also serves as a status light of what’s charging and if there are any errors in positioning or incorrect items or devices being charged.
Unlike some cheap stands, this stand does charge all three Apple devices well and I have yet to hear charging alerts where the stand may drop its charge. The only time I did hear this was when I placed an iPhone 13 Mini on the base charging plate – the manual says it’s only for AirPods, so the result is understandable.
Overall, this 3-in-1 is a keeper. Sorry, Belkin. I love its small footprint, which doesn’t overwhelm my bedside cabinet, and my AirPods are easier to reach, and Apple’s Standby function is great to have during the night hours.
