he MS1 MagSafe Charging stand from Elago. This is the first of four stand designs that they have produced for the MagSafe charger cable. The MS1 has a soft, contemporary design, with lots of curves and a rubber matt material with four colour options.

In the box you just get the stand itself, there’s no instruction manual or any extra accessoires that it comes with. The stand is one piece of molded rubber material. In the middle there is a circular indent that holds the MagSafe Charger snugly in the stand, and the cable passes through a hole that leads to the inside of the stand. Finally there is a cable management cut out on the base of the stand that you can press the cable into to fix it to the back of the stand.

When looking underneath the stand you will notice the stand is mostly hollow. This makes the stand very light, yet thanks to its rubber material, it manages to keep itself upright and firmly fixed to the desktop when placing your iPhone onto it.

The hollow inside creates a nice feature, in that you can store any excess cable inside the stand and allow just a small amount of cable out the back of the stand by attaching this section into the groove underneath the stand.

The MS1 is a vertical position stand for your iPhone, meaning it keeps your iPhone upright instead of the more horizontal stands you can insert the MagSafe charger into. Because of this it angles your iPhone in a good position to easily view your iPhone screen and its notifications at a glance, without leaning over the stand, and it’s also great for video conferences and FaceTime calls too. Unlocking your iPhone using Apple’s FaceID can be detected up to 2ft away, which is more than enough for a desktop environment.

The MS1 Stand comes in 4 colours including Black, Blue, Pink and this Stone colour. This stone colour has a soft tone to it, and thanks to its natural light colour, it blends in well without standing out too much. Its two darker colours may appear more bulky, and the white MagSafe disc will stand out more on the Black and Blue stands. If you want the white MagSafe disc to blend in more with the stand, then this Stone colour and the Pink option will achieve that.

The MS1 has a small footprint, so your iPhone perches on top, and the top and bottom portions of the iPhone can be easily grabbed to pull it off the stand. I like that I can pick up my iPhone from the bottom without touching any part of the stand. If you are quick to grab it, or take your iPhone off at an angle, the iPhone can be removed without any movement from what is a fairly lightweight stand. But doing it slowly, or taking the iPhone away from the stand at the same angle can result in some movement from the stand.

Without a heavy base on this silicone stand, it is highly likely that you will be readjusting this stand back to its desired resting spot on your desk every now and then, once you’ve placed and removed your iPhone from it a few times.

The Elago MS1 Charging Stand for the Apple MagSafe Charger retails for £21 or $24 from Amazon, and you can check out my links below. It doesn’t come with an Apple MagSafe Charger, so you do have to factor in another $39 if you still need to buy one.

Its asking price seems a little high to me, for what is basically a silicone stand and a hole for your MagSafe charger to go into. A price point below $15 would have been a more desirable price to me, but its design is great to look at, it stands well on your desktop, and its stability is good too, without requiring too much movement or adjustment.

There Elago has one other silicone stand. The MS2 has a round ball design with a flat spot on the top that creates a flatter angle than the MS1. If you like your stand very close to you, then the MS2 might be ok for unlocking and viewing notifications on your iPhone whilst it’s mounted, but the MS1 will be a better stand if you position it at an arm’s reach away.

So if you are looking for a silicone desktop MagSafe stand, and its price doesn’t worry you too much, on top of the added cost of a MagSafe charger, then the MS1 Stand from Elago is definitely worth looking at.
