In this mini-review, I check out the Binize Crystal 2-in-1 Wireless Adapter. You can buy this wireless dongle for $79.99 direct from Binize > https://bit.ly/binizecrystal.
TL/DR: The Crystal Wireless Adapter from Binize is a unique, colorful 2-in-1 dongle that transforms your wired CarPlay or Android Auto system into a wireless experience. While it may not be the fastest to connect, it offers smooth operation and enhanced performance once connected. Priced under $80, it’s a good option for those seeking a hassle-free wireless adapter with a touch of style.
The Crystal Wireless Adapter from Binize is a simple plug-and-play 2-in-1 wireless dongle that converts your wired CarPlay or Android Auto car system to a wireless one. You simply connect the adapter to your CarPlay or Android Auto USB port and connect your mobile device to the adapter over Bluetooth.
With its transparent hexagonal casing, the Crystal Adapter from Binize not only offers a unique appearance to the more conventional wireless adapters out there, but its clear edges also cover several colorful LEDs inside, that when powered help to illuminate your car’s interior. Sadly you can’t control the color they emit, instead, you can only turn them on and off from the adapter’s IP config menu.
Connecting wirelessly to the adapter may not be the fastest wireless CarPlay/Android Auto dongle, with 14 seconds into Apple CarPlay and 23 seconds into Android Auto. However, once connected, the experience is very smooth and responsive. This is thanks to the higher bandwidth and frame rate that we are now seeing from these new generations of wireless adapters. The result is an obvious reduction in touch input lag, faster caller feedback delay, and updates in turn-by-turn navigation.
Entering its config menu (192.168.1.101 in the Safari browser after wirelessly connecting to CarPlay) is a little bit basic when compared to the CarlinKit and Cuarko wireless adapters, but there are enough options here to help improve the adapter’s compatibility should you have any problems running this wireless dongle on your car system. It’s also worth pointing out that, even though GPS is mentioned in the options menu, the GPS passthrough functionality relates to other hardware that this adapter’s software platform is shared with.
Retailing for under $80, its price is about right for a 2-in-1 adapter that tackles both wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. If you’re looking for a smooth-operating and colorful wireless dongle without the deep configuration options, check out the Crystal Wireless Adapter from Binize.
