This is a specially designed base for your MagSafe charger. In the box is just the base itself and it doesn’t come with Apple’s MagSafe charger – so you need to purchase this separately for around $38.
MagSafe is a great wireless charging solution, but having it laying around the desk isn’t very Apple. This stand makes it way more presentable and it gives your MagSafe charger more of a home, be it on your desk or on a bedside table.
It’s made from an aluminium alloy that compliments the same silver and white colour and materials of the MagSafe charger. The MagSafe charger is simply inserted and held by the white rubber center of the stand and once the USB-C cable is passed through the hole at the back of the stand there is a small groove at the back that keeps the cable tight and in place.
There is a small thermal conductive silicone pad inside the center of where you attached the MagSafe charger. This allows the MagSafe charger to connect with the stand to dissipate any heat from the charger into the aluminium base itself, which helps keep your iPhone cool and safe whilst it is charging.
The stand has a slight angle on it, which makes it swing towards the horizontal style of stand, rather than a vertical one. I think this slightly flat angle is to help with iPhone cases that pass MagSafe through them, but they might simply fall off if the mount was angled more vertically.
In a desktop environment, this angle offers a better view of your iPhone than if it was on a flat surface, yet it isn’t as good for unlocking your iPhone using faceID as it is with a more vertical stand.
The stand weighs 326 grams and it feels very solid and sturdy. Thanks to the nano grip material on the base, the stand almost glues itself firmly to your desktop and it will not budge once you have pushed the stand onto any flat surface and the nano grip material has gripped the surface.
The stand comes with a peace of mind lifetime warranty service, which offers a full refund or replacement if you find any quality-related problems with it. It retails for $22 from Amazon, but you also have to factor in the extra cost of $39 if you do not have an Apple MagSafe charger.
If you already have the MagSafe charger then this stand is a no brainer. It’s a really nice way to integrate the MagSafe charger and it gives the charger and your iPhone 12 more of a home on your desktop.
