For Android users wanting to enjoy a wired to wireless Android Auto experience without replacing their car’s existing infotainment system, the MSXTTLY U2AC-L9 Mini Adapter (US 10% off code CARPLAYLIFE5) (UK 10% off code ANTMSX10) (EU 10% off code ANTMSX10) promises an easy plug-and-play solution. Compact, affordable, and surprisingly powerful, it also adds video streaming capabilities that let you watch YouTube and more directly on your car’s display. Here’s how it performs.
Unboxing the MSXTTLY U2AC-L9
Inside the box, you’ll find the wireless adapter itself, a USB-A to USB-C converter, an additional USB-A to USB-A extension cable for tight spaces, a 3M adhesive pad for securing the unit, and a quick-start guide. It’s everything you need to turn a wired Android Auto port into a wireless one with minimal effort.
Compact Design and Build
The MSXTTLY U2AC-L9 is impressively small at just 42mm in length, 24mm in width and 10mm thick. It has a sleek carbon-effect finish and a status LED on the front. Gold-plated contacts and passive cooling vents help with durability and heat management — a key feature for adapters that run continuously in your car.
Simple Plug-and-Play Setup
In testing with my 2025 Cupra Born, the adapter booted to the Android Auto connection screen in under 8 seconds — faster than many similar adapters. Pairing the device via Bluetooth was quick and stable, and within 8 seconds, the familiar Android Auto interface appeared on the car’s display without any cables attached.
Performance and Responsiveness
Navigation through Google Maps and Waze felt smooth, with navigation pass-through supported to my vehicle’s instrument cluster and HUD, and voice commands using “Hey Google” worked without noticeable delay. Audio playback was also impressive, with steering wheel controls and track skipping functioning exactly as expected. Call quality was clear and immediate, with a 0.12-second delay, making it an excellent daily-driver option.
Video Streaming Apps
The standout feature of this adapter is its support for video streaming, usually a feature found in open and closed AI Boxes costing a lot more. With the Android device doing all the heavy lifting, the performance can be better than most AI Boxes also. This is done by an Android app that enables video streaming services through a browser-like interface, offering access to viewing streaming apps such as YouTube, Hulu, and Disney+. Although the app must be sideloaded onto your Android phone (as it’s not available on the Google Play Store), setup is straightforward. Once installed, the app allows video playback directly through the car’s Android Auto interface, providing a unique entertainment option while parked.
While not officially supported by Google, the streaming feature works well. Video quality is good, with fairly low lag and great audio sync on YouTube at least. For larger infotainment displays, the video may not go full-screen, but it still provides a watchable and fun experience. An additional app – AA Stream – can be used, which does offer screen ratio and full-screen configuration options, yet I wasn’t able to test this fully at the time. I will certainly pick this back up with my review of their latest 2-in-1 adapter in the coming weeks.
Value for Money
Retailing at around $58.98 on Amazon (currently discounted to $48.98 with coupons) (US) (UK) (EU) the MSXTTLY U2AC-L9 is a competitively priced adapter that performs reliably. It’s ideal for anyone looking to cut the cord and enjoy a seamless wireless Android Auto experience, with the bonus of video streaming when stationary.
Is it Worth Buying?
The MSXTTLY U2AC-L9 Mini Wireless Android Auto Adapter delivers exactly what it promises: a fast, stable wireless connection for Android Auto with minimal setup. Its small design, excellent responsiveness, and the added bonus of video playback support make it one of the most versatile wireless adapters currently available, and a viable, cheaper alternative to more complex AI Boxes.
For users looking for a no-nonsense, plug-and-play solution that brings wireless Android Auto to their vehicle, this adapter is worth considering.
