Unboxing and First Impressions
Inside the box, you’ll find the RGB Nano adapter itself, a USB-A to USB-C adapter for modern ports, a short user guide, and a quality assurance card. The simplicity here sets the tone — minimal fuss, maximum function. The adapter’s glass and aluminium casing feels solid in hand, and its small triangular form factor looks refreshingly modern compared to typical rectangular dongles.
Design and Build Quality
Measuring just 26mm wide, 27mm tall, and around 11mm thick, the Linkifun RGB Nano is one of the smallest adapters I’ve reviewed. Despite its tiny footprint, it feels sturdy and well-built. The aluminium shell helps with passive cooling through ventilation holes around each end. When plugged in, the glowing logo adds a stylish touch that doubles as a connection indicator. Its flush-mounted USB plug orientation also helps it blend neatly into the dashboard without sticking out as much as regular adapters would.
CarPlay Setup and Performance
Testing the RGB Nano in my Cupra Born, setup was impressively fast. Within 7.29 seconds of plugging it in, the adapter booted into its pairing menu. Connecting an iPhone was straightforward — pair via Bluetooth, and CarPlay launched in around 7.56 seconds. Once connected, the performance was smooth, with a stable 60fps-like experience. App interaction in Apple Maps and Spotify was smooth and quick, and steering wheel controls responded well, too.
Audio quality was crisp, with reliable track skipping and voice messaging performance. Phone call clarity was also as quick as the fastest adapters I’ve tested, and the adapter successfully passed through GPS data, whilst also displaying turn-by-turn data on my vehicle’s instrument cluster and HUD systems.
A final boot to wireless CarPlay test resulted in 11.01 seconds, which wasn’t the fastest time recorded, but it came a very close second place. This served up good standings for being a very good adapter, as long as Android Auto also performed as admirably. Let’s find out…
Android Auto Performance
Connecting to wireless Android Auto was just as easy. The RGB Nano paired in a slightly longer time over CarPlay, in 10.20 seconds, and it managed to launch the Android Auto interface from powering on in 14.11 seconds, a time unmatched by any other 2-in-1 adapter I’ve tested. Like CarPlay, its interactions of its interface were swift, feeling wirelessly native throughout. Navigation, audio streaming, and menu transitions felt responsive. However, the main drawback was the microphone functionality. While calling worked fine (likely due to its direct BT channel connection), the Google Assistant didn’t respond to my voice commands. Hopefully, a future update will address this issue, and also this might be localised to my own car system setup, and be less of an issue on other car systems.
Thermal Performance
After about 25 minutes of continuous use, testing CarPlay and Android Auto, thermal readings peaked around 35.2°C at the glass face end of the adapter, whilst running cooler around the aluminum edge exterior. This is warm to the touch but not concerning. Compared to my recording iPhone 16 Pro at the time, the smartphone was running at 42–45°C under similar conditions, the Linkifun RGB Nano remains within safe operating levels. The passive cooling design clearly helps maintain performance without overheating.
Small, Stylish, and Surprisingly Capable
The Linkifun RGB Nano is a smart little adapter that delivers where it counts — quick boot times, stable connectivity, and excellent CarPlay performance. While Android Auto users should be cautious of its full microphone support, the overall performance and premium metal build make it one of the fastest compact options under $40.
If you primarily use Apple CarPlay and want an affordable, stylish wireless upgrade that won’t clutter your dashboard, the Linkifun RGB Nano is easy to recommend. Android Auto users should be aware of the microphone limitation, but for casual use, it still performs admirably.
