iNassen USB-C to 3.5mm Audio Cable Adaptor Review

Read our full written review below

As USB-C begins to take over the ports on our newly purchased devices we all find ourselves transition through this phase of trying to make our older tech work with the new. There are times when you’ll need an adapter to connect to an older pair of wired 3.5mm headphones to the only port that’s available on your iPad Pro or smartphone.

The iNassen USB-C to 3.5mm Audio Cable Adapter is once such adapter that will help you breathe a new life into your old tech, in this case, a pair of 3.5mm headphones or microphone, and have them work with any USB-C device without a 3.5mm port, such as the iPad Pro.

If you still use either Apple’s own 3.5mm EarPods that came with your old iPhone, or you have a decent pair of headphones that you would like to use with your iPad Pro, then this is where the iNassen USB-C to 3.5mm Audio Cable Adapter will help you.

Inside the sealed plastic pouch comes the little back adapter cable itself. From end to end it measures just shy of 13cm, which is enough to give some flexibility when connecting to another cable, yet not too long to make it unwieldy once connected. The cable itself is braided to help it last 10x longer than more plastic cables and has an improved bend lifespan. At both ends of the cable, you have sealed connections on each connector and the connectors themselves feel solid too.

The cable is plug and play, you simply connect the USB-C end into your iPad Pro and plug your 3.5mm headphones into the 3.5mm female port of the adapter. The audio connection is initiated instantly on the iPad Pro.

Both audio and microphone input is supported via this cable. This means if you use the older 3.5mm Apple Lightning EarPods or a microphone-equipped headset, you can record audio through this cable. The built-in power DAC chip features sample accuracy of 32bit/384kHZ (other cables only provide 24bit/96kHZ), which maintains high-resolution acoustics to your headphones.

Unfortunately, specific 3.5mm microphones will not work with this adapter. I tried an old 3.5mm lapel microphone and I just wasn’t able to record audio from it on my iPad Pro. This was a rather old microphone, and I expected that it wouldn’t possibly work with this adapter.

Retailing for just £7.99 from Amazon, the price to continue to use your most loved headphones or headsets on your iPad Pro is very small. If you do not want to spend any more money on a pair of Bluetooth headphones or a pair of USB-C headphones, this adapter will allow you to play audio and record through your EarPod’s microphone.

There are many alternatives to this cable, yet I found it has been priced well and the sound to be great with a number of headphones and headsets in my test. So if you love to save the environment and repurpose your old 3.5mm Apple EarPods or headset on your iPad Pro USB-C connection then I recommend you check out the iNassen USB-C to 3.5mm Audio Cable Adapter.
