Anker PowerWave Fast Wireless Charger Stand Review

Thanks to the Qi wireless charging capability found in the iPhone 8, iPhone X and the latest iPhone XS, XS Max and XR, it has drastically boosted the popularity of various wireless chargers.

Out of the two types of desktop Qi wireless chargers – flat base and vertical stand types – I much prefer the vertical kind. Flat base chargers that allow you to place your iPhone on charge in a horizontal flat position, where as vertical stand chargers angle the phone in a way that makes them best suited on a working desk or nightstand.

The Anker PowerWave Fast Wireless Charger Stand positions itself in the vertical stand department of wireless chargers. In the smart Anker box you’ll find the sleek black plastic charger that’s fully assembled, a short run micro-USB cable, a quick start manual, support leaflet and a deeper specification manual.

Assembly is as simple as plugging in the micro-USB cable into the charger and into a powered USB-A port. The charger supports 5W / 7.5W and 10W wireless charging. So the Anker PowerWave supports a wire range of wireless charging accessories, including the latest wireless fast charging Apple iPhones.

Thanks to its twin charging coils, the PowerWave lets you watch videos in landscape orientation, or stand in portrait mode for web browsing and FaceID recognition—all the while keeping the power flowing to its device.

Wireless charging through case of various thickness allows you to charge your iPhone without taking your case off whenever you have to charge it. The PowerWave delivers charging power directly through cases up to 5 mm thick, including the thicker Otterbox protective cases.

The PowerWave only comes in a traditional black colour scheme. However since recently reviewing a white coloured fast wireless charger, I personally think black is more fitting and stands out less on a desktop table. Its front facing circle of light informs you when your device is charging.

To take advantage of this stand’s fast charging functionality, iPhones require a Quick Charge 3.0 wall adapter to enable 7.5W fast charging for iPhone. If you opt for a less powerful adapter, such as the stock iPhone adapter, this wireless charger will charge your device at 5W, which is still enough to charge your iPhone overnight, but maybe not enough for the quick ‘top-up’ during the day.

Overall, the Anker PowerWave Fast Wireless Charger Stand is a solid wireless fast charging stand. At a retail price of $29.99 from Amazon, it may not be the cheapest out there, but you get the solid build you come to expect from Anker, and it certainly looks the part. It delivers fast wireless charging of up to 10W for any compatible device, including when new iPhones support it. So if you’re after a solid wireless fast charging stand that just simply works, and has the support for thicker cases, I would definitely consider the Anker PowerWave Fast Wireless Charger Stand.
