Anker PowerPort II 30W USB-C Wall Charger Review

Having a powerful and compact USB charger that can power multiple devices at once is the must have gadget for anyone on the move. Whether you’re traveling around the world or on your daily commute, having a single charger that can power both your MacBook and iPhone allows you to leave multiple chargers behind and make your tech-life that little bit better.

The Anker PowerPort II 30W USB-C Wall Charger is one such gadget that does just that. It features two USB ports, one PowerIQ USB-A port and one USB-C port with Power Delivery. With up to 30W total output, you will be able to fast charge your iPhone from the USB-C port, using an Official Apple USB-C to Lightning cable. Or plug a USB-C to USB-C cable from the PowerPort II and into your MacBook Air whilst charging your iPhone from the single PowerIQ 2.0 USB-A port.

The Anker PowerPort II comes in a fairly compact form factor: (L x W x D): 2.7 x 2.7 x 1.1 inches, which is ideal for any minimalist traveller. Its size and white glossy casing gives a pleasing Apple aesthetic, and with its solid build quality, that you come to expect from Anker, it makes you feel that this charger can take a lot of travel-miles onboard.

Once connected and powering your Apple iPhone, Apple MacBook, or even a console such as the Nintendo Switch, its signature blue ring on the face of the charger illuminates – reassuring you that the PowerPort II is doing its very best at distributing the correct power to your connected devices, thanks to its Power Delivery and PowerIQ technology inside.

Charging times will vary between specific connected devices and whether they are either in standby mode or being used. Expect your iPhone 8 Plus to fully charge within 2 hours and a 2017 MacBook within 2.5 hours. I was even able to charge my 2018 13” MacBook Pro, which usually requires a 60W adapter, and it was able to charge it (albeit slower) in the background – so colour me impressed!

I have very little negative things to say against the Anker PowerPort II. If I were nitpicking, another USB-C port and a little extra juice (45W+) would make this charger the ultimate companion for any tech-laden traveller. But with its 30W total output, this charger didn’t have any problem powering both my MacBook Pro and iPhone XS Max simultaneously.

Currently on sale for $29.99 from Amazon, the Anker PowerPort II is a fantastic (and 58% cheaper) alternative to Apple’s own 30W charger. With its additional USB port it gives you the flexibility and convenience of charging an additional device from one single charger. Bravo Anker!
