Fresh news has appeared during CES 2019 this week. TomTom was giving attendees a sneak peak of the application running on Apple CarPlay in its CES booth. The brief demo has been improved with a better demo shared by its project manager’s LinkedIn page (shown below) showing the app running on a Sony aftermarket receiver whilst a wired iPhone sits next to it runs the same demo.
The demo (above) shows a brief glimpse of TomTom’s beta version of its upcoming navigation app running on Apple CarPlay. In the demo we see a few instances of the app’s user experience. The first we see a lane guidance view with its various CarPlay overlays, including next instruction, eta panel, current street name and speed.
The second is map interaction, which include zoom and panning control. With gesture controls you can also swipe around the map. A basic menu to quickly navigate to home, work and saves searches is one tap away. Petrol stations are also quickly accessible with parking spots also coming in a future update of the app.
TomTom has opened sign-ups to its Apple CarPlay beta program. There is also an Android application underway too. So if you fancy giving TomTom beta app a whirl, sign up to their beta program by tapping the link above.
We have reached out to TomTom for access to the Beta and we hope to bring you our impressions on the state of TomTom for Apple CarPlay as soon we hear more.
