Announced back in the end of August, Sony revealed its first, affordable, CarPlay enabled headunit under the name XAV-AX100.
Those people holding out for Sony’s system will be happy to hear that they can purchase the Sony XAV-AX100 receiver from retailers right now! Those in the UK/Europe may have to wait a little longer however, with the retailer – Amazon – stating a release date of 25th December, of which some of you maybe busy that day!
The XAV-AX100 is a 6.4″ display headunit, which is ever so slightly bigger than the Pioneer and JVC unit we’ve reviewed here on CarPlay Life. Another difference to its aforementioned rivals is its physical buttons and twisty knobs that run down the left side of the display, which is a great addition for anyone seeking more tactile controls than more distracting touch-sensitive buttons.
Retailing on Amazon UK for £430 ($499 on Amazon USA) it slots in to the lower end of CarPlay systems, and knowing Sony, their interface should be pretty decent and modern, compared to the alternatives out there. The display uses resistive technology, that’s also found in the JVC KW-V820BT we reviewed. So that maybe a deal-breaker for some.
Hopefully we’ll get our hands on the Sony over the coming months and bring you our impressions.
