The next new Apple CarPlay receiver announcement today comes from Sony, who announced their next upcoming CarPlay enabled receiver from their CES 2018 press conference.
This sexy-looking XAV-AX5000 (shown above) boasts a wider landscape display than last year’s XAV-AX100 6.4″ model, nudging its sleek physical black aluminium button controls down to the bottom of the 6.95″ capacitive display. A much better look in my opinion.
Just like the Alpine designs, the XAV-AX5000 has had it rear chassis redesigned to feature single-DIN dimensions, this is to allow for extra install space of hardnesses, cables and steering wheel adapters. Sony’s new receiver also packs rear-view-camera support, two USB ports, FLAC support via USB, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a promised fast start-up time.
The XAV-AX5000 is scheduled for release in the Spring. There is no confirmed price point, but expect it to be in the same ballpark as last year’s model, which is around $400.
