The illusive European update for Pioneer’s entry-level Apple CarPlay receiver – SPH-DA120 – has finally released. Since its release, US owners have seen an update, however updates for the SPH-DA120 in UK/Europe has been nonexistent.
It has been a long wait for Pioneer owners, and I am sure this news, if a little late, will be a welcome one for anyone with issues listed below.
The update v1.14, released in January 2017, addresses the following:
- Improve the virtual keyboard problem on iOS 9.x.
- Fix the incorrect indication of names on the screen at Bluetooth Handsfree mode in Thai.
- Fix the music display problem on iOS 8 and later.
- Minor bug fixes

Anyone with firmware version 1.07 (some newer models are running 1.08) should update your receivers if you are only experiencing any of the issues listed above. As the saying goes – “If it isn’t broken, don’t fix it” – so I personally wouldn’t rush out and update unless you are only having issues that this update fixes. Bear in mind that this update will not fix any issues with Apple’s own CarPlay software or Apps.
If you are experiencing any further issues with the SPH-DA120, I would head over to Pioneer support and let them know of the issue.
