Featuring a 7-inch LCD display in the middle of the rather huge dashboard, the 2018 Gold Wing will connect to your Apple device and bring you Apple’s CarPlay platform to your handlebars.
You’d think wireless CarPlay would be at work here, but sadly that is not the case here. You iPhones is required to connect via USB in the trunk or storage compartment in the tank. Bluetooth is supported for headset calls and audio streaming.
“A first for the motorcycle industry! Apple’s CarPlay seamlessly integrates your iPhone into your new Gold Wing. That means you can use your phone’s navigation apps, music, and other services easily. You’ll have access to weather, playlists and telephone numbers while aboard. Available Bluetooth -enabled wireless headsets let you communicate more easily than ever. And best of all, with more apps available every day, CarPlay keeps your bike’s technology and convenience on the cutting edge.”
The centre panel is touch sensitive and CarPlay can also be controlled though the left grip, or rotary controller located on the tank. Check the video below from 6 minutes onwards.
