Ford Announces Apple CarPlay Support In All Future Models

Ford CarPlay 2017

Back in May we reported on Ford favouring its SYNC infotainment platform, with other offerings planned for later, well that day has now come with yesterday’s announcement of CarPlay support in all 2017 Ford models with SYNC 3 equipped, whilst owners of 2016 models will have the option to upgrade later in the year – no doubt at a price!

Ford hasn’t forgotten its own AppLink platform, with enhancements promised at this year’s CES 2016. AppLink apps will are now able to access vehicle data directly, with several apps coming this year that will be able to take advantage of this data, including roadside assistance, AAA.

The open version of the AppLink platform, SmartDeviceLink, is being recently announced by Toyota as their in-car app platform of choice, cutting out both CarPlay and Android Auto.
