Following from the Acura NSX, MDX, TLX and RDX models this will be the first time for the ILX to feature Apple’s in-car infotainment platform.
The 2019 ILX will feature a stacked duel-screen display setup, which involves a captive touchscreen display on the bottom, whilst the CarPlay interface will feature on the top display. Due to its recessed position in the top display, CarPlay will be controlled via the in-car knob only and it will not accessible via the touchscreen. Check out the video below for a brief glimpse of Apple CarPlay running on the ILX 2019.
Apple CarPlay will be available in the ILX 2019 models with the Premium option and above, and it will be rolling out of dealerships this coming October.
The Toyota Camry 2019 features a single touchscreen display and CarPlay maybe limited to some premium options. Its infotainment systems will include a standard 7.0-inch touchscreen and an 8.0-inch touchscreen in the XSE and XLE V-6 models. The 8.0-inch system includes a nine-speaker JBL audio system and a Wi-Fi hotspot.
Apple iPhones will be required to use a wired USB to Lightning cable connection to connect to both models.
With Apple CarPlay, iPhone owners will have easy access to a range of popular apps on their Apple CarPlay display, including Messages, Apple Maps, Apple Music, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, WhatsApp, SiriusXM Radio, iHeart Radio, Overcast, Pandora, Stitcher and many more. With the release of iOS 12 this year, owners will also be able to run Google Maps and Waze navigation apps.
