Hyundai has confirmed that CarPlay will be finally launching in their Sonata model in the first quarter of 2016, missing out on their promised 2015 delivery date.
The South Korean carmaker will be releasing an SD memory card, with the new software installed, that is required to enabled Apple CarPlay on their current Sonata models, although a price of this upgrade hasn’t been disclosed.
“Hyundai and Apple are committed to delivering drivers the best possible experience while using CarPlay in their vehicles,” according to a statement from Hyundai. “We are currently working together to complete CarPlay integration.”
Should the update be required at a cost, then I suggest you search around, as I am sure the firmware update will be leaked online, and a download to your own SD card maybe a hell of a lot cheaper than what a manufacturer will charge you!
Hyundai hasn’t made any further announcements as to whether Apple CarPlay will be coming to its other line-up of vehicles.
