One of the first things I had to Google when I got my iPhone X was how to hard reboot it.
Sometimes apps just don’t play ball and they crash your iPhone, sometimes locking you out and being completely unresponsive to touches or button presses. Without a Home button on the iPhone X, I was left stumped as to how to hard reboot my iPhone, and get it back to working normally.
If you find yourself in the same situation, follow these few simple steps.
Method #1 Hardware Reboot
Use this method if your iPhone is totally unresponsive to any touches and need to be hard booted.
- Press and release the Volume up button
- Then press and release the Volume down button
- Then press and hold the right side button until you see an Apple logo appear on screen.
- Let go of the side button once you see the Apple logo. Your iPhone is now restarting.
Method #2 Software Reboot
Use this method if you have the ability to navigate around your iPhone and wish to shutdown your iPhone via a software command.
- Go to Settings app
- Go to General option
- Scroll to the button and select Shutdown
Note: These methods just reboot your iPhone. Please don’t get this confused with a more serious factory reset – which will clear all your content and/or settings.
Doing the above steps will just shutdown and reboot your iPhone back to your Home screen. Leaving all your apps and content untouched. If you were doing something that wasn’t saved before your iPhone crashed, it is likely this will be lost after rebooting, unless content is saved from the application in the cloud, and it can be restored.
