Hyundai Releases CarPlay Software Update For 2015-2017 Vehicles

Published On May 26, 2016 | News

It has been a frustrating wait for Hyundai owners, who were promised CarPlay support back in 2015. Now at least six months overdue, Hyundai is now informing dealers about their software update and rolling out their CarPlay update to eligible owners that will create eight new CarPlay enabled vehicles that range between 2015 to 2017 models.

As seen in the table below, new CarPlay support will come to the 2016 Elantra GT, 2015 and 2016 non-hybrid Sonata, 2017 Santa Fe Sport, 2017 Santa Fe, 2015 and 2016 Genesis Sedan, and the 2016 Tucson. These new models all join Hyundai’s three existing CarPlay supported vehicles: the 2016 Sonata, 2017 Elantra, and the 2017 IONIQ.

How to Update

Hyundai owners with an eligible vehicle can download the CarPlay update through the Hyundai website and are encouraged to go through the installation process themselves. A Mac or PC with an SD card slot or an external SD card reader is required to download the software and transfer the update to the vehicle’s in-dash system. Software download times range from 25 minutes for Display Audio to more than three hours for Navigation if a map update is required.

The wait is over Hyundai owners, so get downloading and enjoy Apple CarPlay on your existing system! If you want to check if your vehicle is compatible with Apple CarPlay, check our CarPlay Manufactures List.

There is NOTHING on the Hyundai site, once you log into your account, that helps you get the download going. I called my dealer and they aren’t even sure!!!!! I’m tech savvy and if I could just find the download I will install myself. Why do they make this so difficult?????
